Thank you all for the replies, particularly one about the rebarreling. As for the bolt I will probably just make my own lever to clear whatever scope I wind up buying rather than buy the ATI retrofit so that I am not worried about.Īny help on this is greatly appreciated!!! I would rather a standard scope than a long eye relief type that would mount in the rear sight position. I'm particularly interested in the stock and a set of Weaver style scope mounts. As best I can figure is the Turk (of 1943 vintage) is based on the 98 Mauser, so am I correct to assume that most 98 parts should fit? There is no shortage of parts available for the various German and Sweedish variations, but little listed for the Turk. Not much information seems to exist on the Turkish M38. My plan is to semi-sporterize it with a Monte Carlo style stock and some type of scope. So I march it home and disassemble it to remove what's left of the now 65 year old cosmoline and begin my online search for 'upgrades'. How could i say no? It's big, it's clean, it's historical, and it goes bang really, really loud. So I found a Turkish Mauser, which is # matching and appears to be unfired, for the less than princely sum of $119. My plan was to find a decent 1903, or if none were available, a Mauser. So I grabbed a cup of coffee and set out to the local 2nd Ammendment fitness centers to exercise my rights. Ok, so I woke up today and said to myself, 'Self, you need to get a new gun today.'
